Only 6 large size notes are known on this bank previous to this discovery note with only 1 previous examples of the $10 PB known other than this one. The First National Bank of Delano was organized in 1908 during a time of rapid agricultural and economic development in California’s San Joaquin Valley. Delano, located in Kern County, was an important rail stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad and was beginning to thrive from farming, oil exploration, and later, as a hub of labor and civil rights movements in the 20th century. The bank operated under Charter #9195, one of the later charters issued during the National Bank Era. It printed a modest quantity of notes, making surviving examples relatively scarce—especially large-size types like this $10 Plain Back.
