From a new estate find that had been in the family since the 1890s. This is the first time this note has been offered at public auction.. ����� Est. $750-1500 233 233 MD. Franklin Bank of Baltimore, ND (1810s-20s) Unique Obsolete Proof Banknote. Baltimore, Maryland, ND (1810s-20s). $10, MD75G88P, Proof banknote, Black on India paper with Benjamin Franklin facing left flanked by scientific apparatus, quill pens, scrolls and books at top center, S/N None pp C, ‘Specimen’ and ‘Philadelphia’ printed at bottom, PMG graded About Uncirculated 55 with comment “Annotations.” Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co. Imprint. The Silver City Collection was discovered in 2010 in the basement of an old bank building. The 200+ notes, almost all different, were all proofs by RWH & predecessor companies dating between 1810 and 1843 with none later. Evidently it was a forgotten archives of RW&H, Boston that was overlooked and abandoned. These 200+ notes were the only survivors out of close to 5000 notes or more that were found since the balance were dumped by workers at the bank and lost to a land fill. Pittsfield, Massachusetts, ND (1840s-50s). $5, MA975G76P, Proof Banknote, Black on India paper with man at far left, main street scene at top, and arms of Massachusetts at bottom center, S/N None pp B, PCOs along bottom, PMG graded About Uncirculated 53 with comment “Mounting Remnants,” RWH. This is the only example of this note listed in the PMG census of obsolete banknotes. From a new estate find that had been in the family since the 1890s. Similar to G48a (SENC), AU to Choice AU condition, black with full length red lathe underprint. Two women at left, one standing with staff, the other kneeling. Two women seated at center by shield. Oval portrait at bottom right of woman in jewels. Rare and not seen by Haxby with this imprint. S/N 384 B, DW&Co., ABC Monogram. This is the only issued example of this denomination found, previously this denomination was only available as a proof or remainder banknote.
