This note came from an old RW&H sample book discovered only recently. This lovely note deserves further research, but it would not be surprising if it is a new variety that is unlisted . Bank of the State of South Carolina, 1840s, Proof Obsolete Banknote Charleston, South Carolina, 1840s. $10, SC-45-G58P, pp A, Proof Banknote printed on india paper, Uniface note with black printing, Multiple vignettes including Sailing ships, Portraits of Jefferson and another man, Arms of South Carolina, left and right with Allegorical women, PMG graded Extremely Fine 40 with comments “Stains” and “Mounting Remnants,” RW&H. Extremely rare if not unique earlier variety. From a new discovery found in an old New England Estate. PMG cataloged this note as SC45-G58P, and dated it 1840-50s which is incorrect, this note dates from the late 1830s until early 1847, which you can tell by the printer imprint, in this case the note has the imprint of Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, New York, it only produced notes from 1832 to 1847 when Edson joined the firm and the name was changed. This note came from an old RW&H sample book discovered only recently. This lovely note deserves further research, but it would not be surprising if it is a new variety that is unlisted .
