Post Office Warrant from the Confederate States of America Issued for $686.88, S/N 6050, Black text with thin black border, “Transportation of the Mails” in banner at left, Portrait of a man at top center, Signed by John H. Reagan as Postmaster General at bottom right. John H. Reagan (8 October 1818 - 6 March 1905) was a Texas politician who resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives when Texas seceded from the United States to join the Confederacy. He was a member of Jefferson Davis’s cabinet, serving as the Postmaster General. Following the Civil War, Reagan supported collaboration with the subsequent U.S. government, a perspective that was not shared by many of his fellow peers. He continued to serve the United States in a political capacity, and was elected to Congress, then later the U.S. Senate. PMG graded Very Fine 30 but appears to be Extra fine condition with sharp corners, bright colors and crisp paper. Printed by Archer & Daly.
