Edgar Hoover Autograph on FBI Letterhead, 1942 Washington D.C., January 6, 1942. Letter from J. Edgar Hoover on Federal Bureau of Investigation letterhead turning down a Mr. Raphael Quirk of Springfield Ohio for a position as a Special Agent due to his age, Lot also includes original envelope, Letter is in VF condition with minor damage at top margin but signature is in VF to XF condition. John Edgar Hoover ( January 1, 1895 – May 2, 1972) was an American law-enforcement administrator who served as the final Director of the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) and the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). President Calvin Coolidge first appointed Hoover as director of the BOI, the predecessor to the FBI, in 1924. After 11 years in the post, Hoover became instrumental in founding the FBI in June 1935, where he remained as director for an additional 37 years until his death in May 1972 – serving a total of 48 years leading both the BOI and the FBI and under eight Presidents. ��������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� Est. $120-200 Ephemera - Historic Military New York 560 560 New York, 20th Regiment of Militia, 1816 New York Military Appointment Document. New York, September 2, 1816. Document which states the appointment of a member of the 20th Regiment of Militia in the State of New York to the post of Orderly First Sergeant, due to his demonstrated “Patriotism, Courage, and good Conduct.” Black text and handwriting. Issued and signed by David Curtis, Lieutenant Colonel of the same regiment. The name of the appointed militia member, as well as the Captain of the Company, is obscured. Information on New York’s 20th Regiment of Militia in 1816 is extremely scarce. Fine condition with some staining and fragile fold lines. Haupt as president, mainly 25 cent tickets, but includes two 50 Cent tickets, all with similar designs but printed with different text, undertint and border colors, all with similar colored dark green backs. Mostly Uncirculated but there ar small faults on 2 or 3. Early Montana lottery tickets.
