Gilman and signed by J.R. McDonald as president. Fine to VF condition. Rare Washington Territory railroad. D. H. Gilman was an American attorney and railroad builder who made his career in Seattle. At the age of 19 during the American Civil War, he enlisted in one of the Maine companies of the First District of Columbia Calvary. He served as a sergeant with his regiment inGeneral Kautz’s division of Calvary, Army of the James, during the spring and summer of 1864. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Staunton River Bridge on June 25, 1864, but returned to duty four months later as a Quartermaster Sergeant in the First Maine Calvary.
