Persia
243 British Legation Tehran, Proof Second of Exchange, 1850-
80’s.
Tehran, Persia, VF with toning, Proof printed on off white
paper, “…on account of the expenses of Her Majesty’s Mission at the
Court of Persia…”, PBC. Rare early Persia fiscal document.
Iran/Persia, payment order ca.1860 by the British Legation, Tehran.
Issued at a time when there were no banks, let alone banknotes, in
Iran (the first bank was founded in 1889), so British Legation
expenses were paid by these drafts on London which would be sold
to Indian merchants for presentation in London. A similar but not
identical payment order is contained in the collection of the British
Library in London. A unique piece of Persian history
