Foreword
Welcome to the Sale
On behalf of the entire Archives International Auctions team, I would like to personally welcome you to our four-
teenth exciting auction we have held over the last six years. We are offering over 1100 lots of U.S. and Worldwide Ban-
knotes, Scripophily & Security Printing Ephemera at our offices in Fort Lee, New Jersey. We are privileged to have more
exciting selections from the “Hamtramck Collection” put together by a career military officer over a 50 year period beginning
in the 1940’s and continuing to the early 1990’s that includes an amazing selection of Worldwide banknotes with many hav-
ing been off the market or offered for the first time since purchased 30 to 50 years ago. Another amazing group of unique and
important banknotes from Waterlow & Sons is being offered for the first time to the collecting public. In 1919, Waterlow &
Sons contracted with Alphonse Mucha to design a new banknote series for the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. We are fortunate to be
able to offer 2 different and unique color trial essays of this proposed issue by Waterlow & Sons. We are also excited to offer
a complete set of Reserve Bank of Australia Specimens that are offered for the first time to the collecting community. We
have hundreds of other rare banknotes in our current offering that will appeal to collectors and dealers at every level with
many of the banknotes either new to the market or rarely seen at auction.
Additionally, we have a large and exciting selection of U.S. & worldwide scripophily including railroads, mining
and miscellaneous certificates highlighted by a John D. Rockefeller and Henry Flagler Signed Standard Oil Company stock
certificate. We are offering additional Scripophily selections from the American Bank Note Company Archives of rare and
important Railroad and miscellaneous stocks and bonds with many offered for the first time.
One of the highlights of the U.S. banknote section of the auction is a U.S., $10, Series of 1890 Legal Tender Treas-
ury Note, Unique Presentation Proof, originally offered at Stack’s, 2010 Philadelphia Americana Sale and offered for the first
time since that auction. This amazing note was part of an incredible offering of U.S. Federal presentation proofs dated from
the 1860’s to 1907 and is sure to attract serious collector interest. We will also be offering a unique Philippine Islands Silver
Certificate Unique Presentation Proof, $2, Series of 1906, that also came from this presentation book by the Bureau of En-
graving and Printing that should also attract serious interest by the advanced Philippine collector.
We round out the sale with an exciting offering of security printing ephemera with an unique group of Waterlow &
Sons original Advertising and Banknote Artwork including hand painted and illustrated notes from Portugal and China by the
well known Waterlow artist Hugo Fleury. Hundreds of other interesting and rarely seen security printing archival material
will be offered including another significant offering from the American Bank Note Commemoratives Inventory with many
newly offered items never seen previously at auction.
We are looking forward to another exciting auction and hope you enjoy our current offerings. Our next live auction
is scheduled for June 4th, 2013 at our offices in New Jersey. We are already in production for our next Banknote and
Scripophily Auction held in conjunction with the Third Annual Wall Street Coin, Currency and Collectible Show scheduled
October 17th to 19th, 2013. If you have suitable material, we are still seeking consignments for both our June 4th and Octo-
ber 17th to 19th auctions.
I would like to thank everyone who has participated in our previous auctions and has helped make this auction series
a resounding success.
Best of luck,
Bob Schwartz
