Banknote Design for
ca. 1885 Denmark Issue
169 Nationalbanken i Kjobenhavn (National Bank, Copenhagen),
c. 1885, Unique Essay
Denmark, unique and unadopted hand-
executed concept essay for a 100 Kroner note from 1885, during the
reign of Christian IX. At that time, 100 Kroner was the largest
denomination in circulation. We know of two issued 100 Kroner
notes from that period, the first being the 1875-87 issue, P-A83,
unpriced in the catalog, while the second is the 1888-1902 issue, P-
4, valued at $12,000 in Fine condition. The note being offered is nei-
ther of these but is of important significance to any serious
Denmark and Scandinavian collectors as it was from the same peri-
od and for the same denomination. The pen-drawn piece features
the denomination in the top center as well as each corner, with a
stylized frame. VF with small tear near top center line. Unique and
should see spirited bidding. ABNC. ............................
