Close to 190 proof vignettes are present. The majority of the items are medallions, counters and borders, but one page has 9 stock trade card like images with allegorical figures, animals, bees, elk and people dancing. In addition, the vignette count only counted one vignette for compound proofs and this group has a considerable number of compound proofs with multiple vignettes. Condition ranges from VG to XF condition with archival notations in ink on a considerable number of the vignettes. The plate numbers listed on the vignettes or written close to the vignettes are from a different numbering system that ranges from the high 23,000 to low 24,000. NBNC. � Est. $900-1250 675 675 National Bank Note Co. ca.1850-70’s Proof Vignettes on Sample Book Pages U.S. 1870’s. 6 pages of early National Banknote Company Medallion vignettes with various denominations on them. These were used on various U.S.obsolete banknotes and most have the banks name integrated with the lathe work design. 120+ proof vignettes are present. A few of the banks represented in this group are Commercial Bank of Troy; The Bank of Ontario; Salem bank, Mass; Bank of Pottstown; Canal Bank, New Orleans; State Bank of Iowa; Western Bank of Illinois; Hermitage Bank, Illinois and so forth. Almost all of the circular ornate medallions or counters have the banks name on them and a majority of them are different. Most, if not all of these are unique in this archive or at most 2 or 3 were found. Plate numbers range between 174 to 1051. There is one vignette that may appeal to the philatelic community that may be an essay portrait that deserves further inspection.
