Foreword

Welcome to the Sale

On behalf of the entire Archives International Auctions team, I would like to personally welcome you to our fourth

Hong Kong auction. We are offering over 370 lots of Chinese and Asian Banknotes, Scripophily and Coins in association

with Kelleher & Rogers Fine Asian Auctions Ltd., on January 10th, 2015 in Hong Kong. We are privileged to have exciting

consignments that include hundreds of notes as well as major rarities in our upcoming sale including two new discovery

notes, one from Hong Kong, The Mercantile Bank of India, 1948 $500 high grade specimen and the other a 1907 Deutsch-

Asiatische $1 Issued Peking Branch rarity previously known only as a specimen and unreported issued, both being discovery

notes and never offered previously at auction. Also included will be many desirable banknotes that are rarely seen at auction

in addition to a large assortment of specialized issues from many areas.

Additional highlights include 47 lots of Chinese and Asian scripophily, many in group lots; An ICG graded Very

Fine 30, Ming note begins the Empire issues and also includes a number of early Ch’ing notes; An attractive and rare group

of Commercial Bank of China, 1920 issues are followed by Bank of China, Bank of Communications and Central Bank of

China issues in single and group lots with many rare notes; Taiwan is represented by a number of scarce and rare varieties

and is sure to please the discriminating collector; a Hunan Government Bank, Official Mint Hunan, Yr.32 (1906) Issued Ban-

knote with “Teals” Spelling Error is offered by us for the first time; Numerous Provincial Banks are offered with many speci-

mens and issued notes; Hong Kong is highlighted by an amazing Mercantile Bank of India, 1948 $500 Specimen PMG

graded Choice Uncirculated 64 which no other examples of this early date having been at auction previously. A large variety

of issued and specimen Asian banknotes follow with many desirable issues present.

We are offering over 60 lots of Asian coins including Empire and Republic China coins, Japanese coins and many

others. A majority of the coins come from the Hamtramck Collection, acquired by a U.S. Army Officer spanning 4 decades

from the 1940’s to the 1980’s and numerous countries.

We are looking forward to another exciting Hong Kong auction and hope you enjoy our current offerings. Our next

live auction is scheduled in February in the United States and we are planning our 5th auction in Hong Kong in April 2015.

We are also in production for our next ephemera and historic document sale featuring the Rudolph P. Laubenheimer Archives,

who was known for engraving U.S. Postage Stamps as well as numerous medals for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in

Philadelphia and the 1892-93 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Please contact us if you would like to participate or consign
