Welcome to the Sale
On behalf of the entire Archives International Auctions team, I would like to personally welcome you to our first Hong Kong
auction. We are extremely excited to be able to offer an amazing assortment of Chinese, Asian and Worldwide banknotes, coins
and scripophily in the beautiful venue of the Harbour Plaza North Point Hotel in Hong Kong. We are holding this auction in
association with our colleagues from Dynasty Auctions Company, Ltd. and are very appreciative of all of the help they have
given us in putting this auction together. We are already planning our next Hong Kong auction sometime toward the end of 2013
or beginning of 2014.
We are privileged to offer selections of rare Chinese and Asian banknotes from the amazing worldwide collection of Allen Berk.
These group represenst a small portion of Allen’s worldwide collection which he has put together over a lifetime of passionate and
intelligent collecting with encouragement from his wife, Marylou Berk. Included in Allen’s collection are many rarities and also
some of the finest known examples of a number of issues that rarely turn up in high grade.
We are also proud to offer a select group of Hong Kong, China and Worldwide notes from the
Hamtramck Collection
that was put
together by a very astute and knowledgeable collector from the 1940’s through his death in 2007 with none of it offered
previously at auction. The owner of this collection was an officer in the U.S. Army and travelled the world in the 1940’s to 1960’s
when many of these notes were purchased and before there were any reference books to speak of. It is amazing how many
wonderful pieces are included in this collection. We anticipate many more auctions from the outstanding
Hamtramck Collection
in the near future that will include additional offerings of banknotes, coins and scripophily.
We also have a wide selection of American Bank Note Archives Specimens and Proofs, with many never offered at auction since
the 1991 Historic Christie’s ABN Auction. This auction will offer items from every price range including group lots and amazing
single pieces.
In addition, we will also be offering one of the first pieces of European and Western civilization paper money issued and dated
1666
from Sweden. It is in outstanding condition for the issue and we expect record prices for this amazing note. Additionally,
there will be over 50 lots of Asian coins including 19th to early 20th Century Chinese and Japanese coins with many Choice to
Gem Uncirculated pieces.
There will be over 1000 lots of Chinese, Asian and Worldwide banknotes, coins and scripophily in the auction to be held at the
Harbour Plaza North Point Hotel, Hong Kong.
I am proud to present our Hong Kong, Part I, installment of Archives International Auctions offerings of Chinese and Asian
Banknotes, Coins and Scripophily.
Best of luck,
Bob Schwartz
