733 P.C. L. Baudin, Holograph Letter Dated 1793 With Historic
Numismatic Content.
Paris, France, May 8, 1793. Hand written
letter by P.C.L Baudin, a member of the government and Directeur
des Postes, releasing Guerin, Inspector of Paper, after the issuance
of 300 Million Assignats on paper that Guerin inspected. The letter
freed Guerin from his position. Also included are two different pos-
sible reproductions of official French Government announcements,
both announcing the 1792 issue of new assignats. Extremely rare
early French Banknote related documents. Fine with light foxing on
the letter as well as a couple of small corner tip bends, otherwise
they appear in VF condition.

Certificate.
New Jersey, 1897, 12 Shares, I/C stock certificate,
Signed by Emanuel Lehman as president. Lehman was a German
American banker. The younger brother of Henry Lehman, he was a
co-founder of Lehmann Brothers. In 1897, he donated $100,000
(equivalent to $2.8 million in 2012) to the HebrewOrphan Asylum of
New York.

Lehman. Philip Lehman was an American investment banker. He
was born in New York City to Emanuel Lehman and Pauline
Sondheim, Emanuel was a co-founder of investment bank, Lehman
Brothers. Philip became a partner in the family-owned firm in 1887
and was the firm’s managing partner from 1901 to 1925. He was also
the first chairman of the board of the Lehman Corporation.

New York, June 4, 1902. 4 Shares, S/N 3, Issued and ink
cancelled stock certificate, Signed by Elbert Hubbard as president
and Elbert Hubbard II as treasurer. XF condition. Roycroft was a
reformist community of craft workers and artists which formed part
of the Arts and Crafts movement in the USA. Elbert Hubbard found-
ed the community in 1895 in the village of East Aurora, Erie County,
New York, near Buffalo. Participants were known as Roycrofters.
The work and philosophy of the group, often referred to as the
Roycroft movement, had a strong influence on the development of
American architecture and design in the early 20th century.
