1005 Civil War era letter and envelope, Columbus, Kentucky,
June 28, 1863.
Columbus, Kentucky. 1863, “…the hospital has
been broke up and both have been consolidated in to one and I am
going to remain here until the Hospital Furniture is moved or turned
over to the Quartermaster… Dr. Riley… said that he had got the
Blanks (furlough) signed by Dr. Allen Med Inspector of Gen. Grant’s
Dept...our Co has been in a fight since they went down to Memphis
and I heard that there was seven of our men missing... our Col John
Murray has been in a fight down in Vicksburg and was wounded in
the head...I would like to be home on the 4th of July...they are mak<
ing great preparations here to celebrate the 4th on the Old
Fashioned Style and will have a gay old time of it...I don’t know as I
shall go to Celebration as I have seen plenty of Celebrations in
earnest within the last two years there has been 25<30 boys
Furloughed from here with the last two weeks and as many more
have been sent to Mound City to be discharged...” VF condition let<

Civil War era Ephemera.

1006 Bureau Refugees, Freedman and Abandoned Lands, State
of Louisiana, Office of Assist. Quartermaster, 1865 Letter.
New Orleans, LA. November 15th, 1865, 1 page letter or Office of
Assistant Quartermaster stationary. Letter is to F.H.Quitman from
W.B. Armstrong, Captain and Assistant Quartermaster, discussing a
plantation situated in the Parish of Terrebourne, LA, that evidently
was seized by the U.S. Government after the war and appears to be
leased or given back to him. Interesting and scarce post Civil War
document. VF condition.

1007 F.H. Quitman Telegraph Correspondence Quartet from
1851 to 1856.
Lot of 4 telegrams from New Orleans, Natchez,
Washington and Baltimore on various telegraph company
telegrams, Companies include National Line; Morse’s Telegraph;
National Telegraph and Magnetic Telegraph. Mostly about trivial
daily things. Quitman evidently had business interests in the south
including a plantation that was evidently confiscated during the war
and returned at the end of the war. Mixed condition from VG to VF.

1008 Virginia 1861 “Ordinance of Secession ; Amendment to
Constitution” Election Ballot.
Virginia, 1861, Printed ballot with
State Seal for election of May 23 1861 for House of Delegates candi<
date D.C. Dunn (added signature of A.B. Clark and signed by J.R.
McKee on back) for the Ordinance of Secession (which passed over<
whelmingly), Fine condition aside from a couple of folds and a bit of
soiling, Rare souvenir of that troubled time.
