New York, 1907. 32 page,
Leather bound book, 8 by 11 inches, photograph of Mr. Lehman in
front. The book includes a biography of Lehman and tributes, eulo<
gies, letters of condolence celebrating Mr. Lehman’s work for the

Emanuel Lehman was born in Rimpar, Bavaria, February 15, 1827
and died in New York City, January 10, 1907. He started his business
career in Montgomery, Alabama in the firm H.Lehman & Bro. His
younger brother Mayer joined the firm a few years later and the firm
became known as “Lehman Brothers”. Emanuel moved to NY in the
early 1850’s. He devoted a great deal of time to philanthropic work
and was active on many boards. He died before the Panic of 1907
that J.P.Morgan helped resolve and it is ironic that his firm was one
of the first of the major financial firms to go under in the Panic of
2008 and 2009. Rare and historic Lehman Brothers related item.
