Foreword
Welcome to the Sale
On behalf of the entire Archives International Auctions team, I would like to personally welcome you to our fifteenth
exciting auction we have held over the last six years. We are offering over 1000 lots of U.S. and Worldwide Banknotes, Coins,
Scripophily, Autographs & Security Printing Ephemera at our offices in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
Included in our upcoming auction are additional selections from the “Hamtramck Collection”, put together by a career
military officer over a 50 year period as well as an exciting new find, “The Somerset Collection”, consisting of small groups of
encased postage and colonial coins collected directly out of circulation by an old New Jersey family that has lived on the same
property since 1801. Though the collection is relatively small, it is like viewing a time capsule and looking into our past to see
what was available from circulation in the early 1800’s to 1860’s.
We are also privileged to offer from the United Arab Emirates first series of banknotes, the ND (1973) Issue, a matching
Serial Number “000002” set of 5 notes that has never been offered publicly at auction previously and is sure to garner much
attention. There are over 350 lots of worldwide currency being offered with many outstanding pieces from over 80 different
countries. Some of the major highlights include an exciting China offering as well as a historic French offering including an 1720
hand written letter by “John Law”; Peru is represented by two outstanding ABN specimens never offered previously in auction
including a 100 Soles, 1877 Banco Nacional Del Peru banknote; two beautiful and extremely rare Puerto Rico proofs including the
cover note are offered; Russia is represented by an extremely rare 1917 Perm City Association banknote quartet graded between XF
and AU by PMG and are the only graded examples in PMG’s census. An extremely rare and uncataloged denomination, South
Africa, “Boer War Issue”, 5 Pounds, cloth banknote from the Upington Scouts is being offered for the first time to the collecting
public. We are also privileged to offer two different rare India banknotes including a previously uncataloged ca.1850’s Commercial
Bank of India rarity.
A historic group of Francis Spinner letters are being offered and offer insight into the trying times Spinner lived through in
the 1850’s and 1860’s. He was vehemently anti slavery and in one of the letters, calls himself a “Black Republican” emphasizing his
political position at the time ca.1858-1860.
There over 450 lots of scripophily including banking, finance, Worldwide and interesting rare certificates including an
amazing 1854 marine salvage certificate with a unique diver vignette as well as over 200 different railroad certificates. Many
historic autographs including literary giants and well known political and celebrity names are offered. We are also excited about our
largest offering of historic coins including a 17th century Russian Copper Kopek collection; U.S. encased postage; U.S. colonial
coins as well as rare proof and circulated Indian Cents from the Somerset Collection with a couple of highlights including an 1877
Indian Cent graded XF 45 by NGC as well as a CAC stickered 1864 Proof 65 “Red” coin that is sure to attract attention. We are also
offering our largest group of Liberty Loan and Federal Bonds including a unique Fourth Liberty Loan, $100 Replacement “Star”
bond. U.S. colonials, obsoletes, small and large types and numerous interesting Security Printing Ephemera round out the auction.
We are looking forward to this exciting auction and hope you enjoy our current offerings. Our next live auction is
scheduled for October 19th, 2013. We are again serving as the official auctioneer for the Third Annual Wall Street Coin, Currency

suitable material, we are still seeking consignments for our October 19th auction.

resounding success.
Best of luck,
Bob Schwartz
