George VI on left, Choice VF but there is evidence of light areas of
rust in middle from an old paper clip, S/N 53D83494, TDLR. Scarce

Elisabethville, Katanga, 1960, 20 Francs, P-6s,
Specimen banknote, turquoise on brown, Tshombe on right, Pin
punch “Specimen” and “00.00.00” for date. S/N ZZ 991894, PMG
graded Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. Attractive and scarce note espe-

2273Cocos, 1879 Unlisted earlier First Issue Rarity.
Keelings Cocos,
September 26, 1879, fc. 1/4 Rupee Copper, P-Unlisted earlier date
1879, Listed in SCWPM dating from 1887 to 1888, Black printing,
Small size, 54 x 42mm, Hand signed by J.C. Ross, embossed seal at
center top, S/N 943, VF to XF condition. Amazing high grade note
with most examples from the 1887 time period usually with signifi-
cant ink burn, this unlisted earlier issue has no ink burn, bright and
clear printing as well as legible handwritten dates and signature. It
appears to be printed on sheepskin, but please inspect, the later
1887-88 Issue is unpriced in SCWPM and this unlisted earlier issue
should attract considerable interest. The Keeling Cocos Islands are a
group of 27 small coral islands located in the Indian Ocean, first dis-
covered in 1609. In 1857 they became a British Protectorate and
were administered by the Clunies-Ross family until the islands were
sold to Australia in 1978. Rare and desirable note possibly never

1879 Issue Sheepskin Note.
Keeling Cocos, 1/4 Rupee copper,
26th September 1879, P-Unlisted, 53 x 42 mm’s, the 1/4 in large
thick numbers on Lower right and upper left, issued, S/N 565, Small
oval seal, possible 1/4 hand stamp on back that is difficult to make
out, Fine to VF for the issue, the inks are still relatively strong, no ink
burn and firm paper add to the desirability of this rare and unlisted
note in SCWPM. Only the 1887-88 issue and later are listed, nothing

Unlisted earlier date 1880, Listed in SCWPM dating from 1887 to
1888, Black printing, Large Size, 65 x 49 mm, Printed on thin parch-
ment, Hand signed by J.C. Ross, embossed seal at center top, S/N
92, VG to VG+ condition. Amazing note with most examples from
the 1887 time period usually with significant ink burn, this unlisted
earlier issue has no ink burn. The later 1887-88 Issue is unpriced in
SCWPM and this unlisted earlier issue should attract considerable
