Michigan. ND (ca.1860-70’s). 10 Cents, Issued Membership
Certificate for “The Schools of Michigan - To Her 13,000 Fallen
Braves “. Blue on light orange underprint. The certificate appears XF
with light toning on the margins, but there is a small 1 inch tear on
the top margin just touching the design on the top middle. Ornate
design, with grieving mother, dog and soldiers by flag draped coffin
in middle top, the corners of the certificate with different military
scenes including soldiers charging into battle on lower right,
armored military naval vessels on bottom left, soldiers falling in bat-
tle on upper left and soldiers with cannons on upper right, the top
middle margin has patriotic flags, cannon and shield, the bottom
middle margin has flag draped coffin. Sad but inspiring certificate.
