529 American Bank Note Company, 1917-1960, Trio of Advertising Pieces

ABNC, lot of 3, includes specimen 10 Dollars, series 1929, with

allegorical woman at center, uniface and UNC apart from a 1/2 inch tear

at top center that is difficult to view; proof 20 Dollars travelers cheque

for American Express, hole punch canceled, uniface, VF; and an ABNC

advertising card, litho. printed, American eagle at top, mentioning an

530 Draper, Underwood, Bald & Spencer, ND, ca.1820’s Proof Advertising Sample Sheet.

NY and PA. Large format, The firm has

locations listed “No.47 Sansom St., Philadelphia and No.14 Wall Street,

NY”. Black on thin white india type of paper, large medallion cameo

in middle surrounded by dozens of allegorical figures including sailing

ships, cameos, counterfoils and numerals and counters, Quarter folded,

appears VF but one vignette has been cut out of the top left area that

could easily be replaced, still very rare and desirable even with one

531 Fairman, Draper, Underwood & Co., ca.1824 Proof Advertising Sheet.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 12 1/2” x 15 1/2”. With over

sixty intaglio engraved vignettes, counters and end panels by one

of the premier bank note companies of the 1820s. Near the top is an

advertising bank note with an ornamental 5 near the center and Franklin

and Washington at the sides. The reason for printing and distributing

this type of sheet is made clear by the text on the bank note - “This

Specimen of Work to prevent FORGERIES is respectfully submitted

to the Banking Institutions of the UNITED STATES.” Lightly pasted

on to a contemporary ledger sheet that was used as a scrapbook page.

Trimmed to the outside border, otherwise Choice VF.������������Est.

Charleston, South Carolina. Lot of 4 notes (uncut sheet of 4), ND

(printed 1850-60’s, this sheet is ca.1970’s), $10-10-10-10, (SC-25-G24a),

Modern “Proprietary Proofs”. Black printing without underprint,

printed on thin white card, Uncirculated to CU+ condition. ABNC.
